THE POINT OF RIFFL

Most trackers stop at a number. Riffl helps you act on it.

Seeing where your money went is step one. Riffl turns it into a habit — set a goal, stash what you didn't spend, and cut the subscriptions quietly draining you.

Savings goals

Name a target, watch the ring fill, and know if you're on pace — or how far short.

Found money

Under budget this month? Riffl nudges you to set it aside before it slips away.

Subscription radar

Riffl flags the recurring charges you've stopped using — so you can cancel and save.

The hero showed you a tidy receipt. Real life isn’t tidy — tap a case:

01
The tall one

Half a metre of JustRite paper — 58 items, read in one pass.

02
The faded one

A real Jendol receipt — crumpled, faded, torn at the top. One field flagged, honestly.

03
The dark one

Snapped in a dim buka, read anyway. Riffl never needs your bank login to do it.

04
The cracked one

A Moniepoint alert behind spiderwebbed glass. Low confidence says so.

The transfer alerts no other tracker can read.

In Nigeria, most spending lives inside bank and fintech apps, not open-banking APIs. Riffl reads the screenshot — recipient, amount, reference, balance — and turns it into a clean transaction.

Look back, honestly.

Riffl isn't just a logbook — it's a mirror. The receipts, alerts and POS slips of your real life on one side; the same money, sorted and readable, on the other. Weekly, monthly and yearly, every change marked or against the period before.

Loans and Ajo, kept out of your spending.

Half your transfers aren't spending — they're a loan to a friend, your Ajo contribution, or rent split three ways. Riffl asks what a transfer was for, tracks what you're owed, and reconciles repayments automatically.

WHY I BUILT RIFFL

I kept throwing my receipts away.

Every week I'd collect receipts from convenience stores and fast-food spots — and bin them without logging a single one. My bank transfers, money in and money out, went untracked unless I asked for a statement. And even then, it never captured what I actually needed to manage my spending.

I wanted something simpler: snap the receipt or the bank alert, and actually see my weekly and monthly spend — clearly enough to budget and rein it in.

So I built Riffl. Personal-first, for exactly that.

Riffl reads with AI. Riffl thinks on your phone.

Riffl never connects to your bank. No login, no aggregator, nothing standing open — there is no connection to leak, because we never built one. Reading is one moment: the picture you point at a receipt goes to be read, comes back as figures, and is gone. Everything after that — your ledger, your budgets, your basket, how your own prices have moved — is worked out here, on your phone. We never see it. Here's the whole ledger, kept the way we'd want to see it →

New tax rules? Your records are already clean.

If you freelance, contract or run a small business, Nigeria's new tax regime means keeping real income and expense records — not a shoebox of receipts. Every snap you take all year becomes the statement filing season asks for.

Every expense dated, categorized and tagged as it happens
PDF statements for any range — a quarter, a tax year, one category
One CSV hands your accountant the whole ledger

Riffl isn't a tax adviser — it just makes sure your records are ready when filing is.

07 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

So my receipts do leave my phone?+

The photo does, for the seconds it takes to read — then it is discarded. Never stored, never used to train anything. What comes back are figures, and they are saved on your phone. Everything else — your transactions, your history, and every insight Riffl works out about your money — never leaves this device at all. And the thing we never ask for, and have never built a way to ask for, is your bank login.

How is this different from apps that link my bank?+

They hold your financial life on their servers and do the working-out there — that is how they are built. Riffl has no bank connection to hold: no login, no aggregator, nothing standing open. The only thing we ever see is a receipt photo, briefly, that you chose to take. Everything Riffl works out about your money is worked out on your phone.

Do you make money from my data?+

No, and it is not a promise we could quietly break — there is nothing to sell. Your transactions are computed and stored on your phone, in an encrypted database. What reaches us is a receipt photo, read and discarded in seconds, and a count of how many scans ran. Turn on cloud backup and your ledger does leave the phone — but it is encrypted first, with a key derived from your passphrase that we never receive. We hold a blob we cannot open. Asked to hand over your spending, we would have nothing readable to hand over. Riffl is paid for by subscriptions — the free tier keeps unlimited capture, and Plus opens the deeper audits. No ads, no data broking, no selling anything to anyone.

Do you train AI on my receipts?+

No. The image is read, the figures are returned, the image is discarded. Nothing is kept and nothing is used for training.

What could Riffl staff see if they wanted to?+

A count of how many scans have run. Not your transactions, not your receipts, not your insights — none of it reaches us. If you turn on encrypted backup, we hold a file we cannot read: the key is yours and only yours.

Is Riffl free?+

During early access, yes — completely. Long-term, the core capture → audit loop stays free, with an optional paid tier for power features. No ads, and your data is never sold.

Which banks and apps does it read?+

Any bank or fintech alert you can screenshot — OPay, Kuda, Moniepoint, PalmPay and more — plus printed receipts from JustRite, Jendol, Shoprite and the like. No bank logins or API access required.

Can it help with the new tax requirements?+

Yes — the records contractors and small businesses now need are the ones Riffl already keeps: every expense captured, categorized and dated. Export any range as a PDF statement or a CSV for your accountant. Riffl isn't a tax adviser; it just makes sure your records are ready when filing is.

Does it work offline?+

Capture, editing, filtering and your weekly, monthly and yearly audits all run on your phone. Reading a capture with AI needs a connection — switch AI off and reading stays on the phone too, though it reads less well.

Do I have to connect my bank account?+

No. Riffl never asks for your bank login and has no way to reach your account. You show it a receipt or a bank alert; that is the whole connection. Nothing to revoke, nothing to leak.

What is the “AI read”, and where does my data go?+

AI is how Riffl reads — item-level detail is what your budgets, basket breakdown and audits are built on, and nothing else gets it off a faded thermal receipt. When it runs, the image is read and immediately discarded: never stored, never trained on. Everything Riffl then works out from it happens on your phone.

What happens if I lose my phone?+

Your data is encrypted on-device. Turn on optional encrypted backup — to your own cloud file or a hosted service — and you can restore everything on a new phone.

Will it work on my phone?+

Riffl is built for the phone you already have, not a flagship. The reading is done by AI rather than by your phone’s processor, so a ₦40,000 Android gets the same read as a ₦900,000 one. All it has to do is take the picture.'s the whole point.

Does Riffl read my alerts automatically?+

No — and that’s deliberate. Riffl doesn’t sit inside your SMS or notifications. You snap the alert or share the screenshot, it reads everything in about 2 seconds, and that is all it ever sees. “No typing” means you never enter amounts or names by hand — not that the app watches your phone. A money app with standing access to every alert is exactly what we didn’t want to build.
